DON’T WANT TO GET SPRAYED WITH TOXIC MOSQUITO SPRAYS?
Residents for Environmental Action
and
Community Health
Hello folks,
Wanted to let everyone know about an upcoming meeting of Residents for Environmental Action and Community Health. (REACH) We will be meeting on:
Tuesday, July 15th
7:00 p.m.
at the 3 Rivers Food Coop (Spring and Sherman)
We have ordered NO SPRAY yard signs.
They read:
NO SPRAY
JOIN THE NO SPRAY LIST 449-7691
This is the no-spray number for the Allen County Dept. of Health.
As you may know, the Health Dept. sprayed once already. David Shearer's neighborhood was sprayed, and he reports that the spray truck did indeed stop spraying in front of his house.
We will discuss ways to distribute our signs around the city. We're thinking of charging $3 a piece for them, which is close to cost. We are also considering a door-to-door campaign and contacting neighborhood presidents about the signs. In addition, the Co-op and the Health Food Shoppe will sell them. Any ideas are welcome, so come on down to the Co-op.
Thank-you and hope to see you on the 15th.
Diane Dickson
REACH is a group of local citizens and neighborhood association officers. We have been asking the Allen County Department of Health to adopt more effective, less toxic means of controlling West Nile Virus, based on successful source reduction and education strategies that have been effective in many other communities.
The spray used to kill adult mosquitoes has not been proven effective in reducing the risk of WNV disease transmission. It is a potential health risk to people with respiratory problems and compromised immune systems, and is highly toxic to bees and fish. Want the spray trucks to stop spraying in front of your house? We will be making NO-SPRAY yard signs available at a nominal cost at the 3 Rivers Food Co-op (Spring and Sherman Streets). For more information call Diane at 456-9724.
